Chogyal Namkhai Rinpoche was the first Vajrayana Master that started teaching Dzogchen in the West.

He wrote numerous books (commentaries, revealed teachings, instructions etc.) on the subject of Tantra and Dzogchen.

In 1976, Namkhai Norbu began to give Dzogchen instruction in the West, first in Italy, then in numerous other countries. He quickly became a respected spiritual authority among many practitioners and has created centers for the study of Dzogchen worldwide.

On 10 September 2018, the Italian government gave its highest award, Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, to him from President Sergio Mattarella.

The Tibetan government in exile regarded him as having been “the foremost living Dzogchen” teacher at the time of his death in 2018.

My Reincarnation movie

For twenty years, filmmaker Jennifer Fox has been following the high Tibetan master, Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, and his Italian born son, Yeshi, with her camera. The result is the astounding feature-length documentary, MY REINCARNATION, which tells the rare inside story of one of the last reincarnated teachers to be trained in Tibet…

Info about the Master on Dzogchen web site:

His lineage steams from Dzogchen Master Jigme Lingpa who has emanated as body incarnation Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo Rinpoche, who in turn has emanated as Jamyang Chokyi Wangchuk, the uncle of Chogyal Namkhai Rinpoche, one of His most important Dzogchen teachers.

I received Ati Yoga (Dzogchen) empowerment from Namkhai Rinpoche in 2017 and through His teachings (from His books and directly) learned so very much.

His non-dogmatic, open, and simplicity-enriched approach resonates with the innermost reality so very much!
I never knew why I was directed to receive His Dzogchen empowerment. Now, years after, however, I slowly begin to understand: His level of attainment is fully grounded into personal and everyday life levels of existence. Rarely do I observe such complete integration. I would also love to attain such integration, with practice and joyful effort.

Many thoughts on this Blog are inspired by His pragmatical example.

My favorite quote of the Master:
“Once we know the essence of things, insisting on locking ourselves in any cage not only leads to a conflict with our real state but can also become a source of various problems and difficulties.”
– On Birth, Life and Death, by Chogyal Namkhai Norbu, p. 135
